CAQH Named by Computerworld as a 2013 Computerworld Honors Laureate

Award Recognizes Universal Provider Datasource (UPD) for Collaboration and Positive Impact

WASHINGTON, DC - 4/24/13

CAQH® today announced that it has been named by IDG’s Computerworld Honors Program as a 2013 Laureate. The annual award program honors visionary applications of information technology promoting positive social, economic and educational change.

CAQH earned the honor for facilitating industry-wide collaboration that uses technology to eliminate redundant administrative paperwork, saving providers an estimated 4.9 million hours and more than $147 million annually with its Universal Provider Datasource®(UPD®) initiative.

“Technology continues to play a pivotal role in transforming how business and society functions. For the past 25 years the Computerworld Honors Program has had the privilege of celebrating innovative IT achievements,” said John Amato, vice president & publisher, Computerworld. “Computerworld is honored to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of the 2013 class of Laureates and to share their work. These projects demonstrate how IT can advance organizations' ability to compete, innovate, communicate and prosper.”

UPD is a secure online tool where physicians and other healthcare professionals self-report and maintain credentialing and other professional information in a single, standard electronic form. Providers can authorize access to this information to nearly 700 participating health plans, hospitals and other healthcare organizations. These participating organizations use the provider data to streamline processes for credentialing, claims administration, quality assurance, emergency response, member services and more.

“This honor is especially meaningful because it recognizes how providers, health plans and hospitals working together have established UPD as a trusted and valuable resource,” says Robin Thomashauer, executive director of CAQH. “UPD technology enhancements over the next year will leverage the success of the existing platform to increase data quality and enable a smoother, faster and more intuitive user experience.”

More than 1.1 million providers in all 50 states and the District of Columbia currently use UPD. A recent survey of UPD providers indicated a satisfaction level approximately three times the industry average, with more than 91% reporting they are “satisfied” with UPD and nearly half “very satisfied.” Similarly, nearly nine out of ten providers would recommend UPD to a peer.

The Computerworld Honors Program awards will be presented at the Gala Evening and Awards Ceremony on June 3, 2013 at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C.

Founded by International Data Group (IDG) in 1988, The Computerworld Honors Program is governed by the not-for-profit Computerworld Information Technology Awards Foundation.
