Reports To

Senior Vice President, Technology and Operations (CTO)

Data is CAQH’s most critical asset. You will change how we understand and work with it both internally and externally. CAQH is seeking a hands-on leader for our Data Science team. The CDO will take the primary role in analyzing and delivering results based on large health care databases – from CAQH, from health plans and from third parties. He/she will preferably have experience in health plan performance and quality measurement. As a senior member of the Technology team, the selected individual will contribute to business development activities and will hire and mentor a team of data engineers and data analysts . The successful candidate can determine what the data means, define analysis plans, select appropriate methods and tools, conduct analysis, recommend solutions, ensure an effective quality analysis plan, and communicate with clients. This is a highly strategic position requiring experience with data science, commercially available data management tools, and large-scale databases.


This role is a full-time remote exempt position and reports to the Senior Vice President, Technology and Operations.  Occasional travel to the corporate office in Washington DC is required.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a data platform to ingest, transform, and harmonize data to serve business unit prioritized use cases, and a democratized data environment using data services and business intelligence toolsets.
  • Establish scalable and sustainable data / analytics toolsets to accelerate time to value. 
  • Attract and retain the best talents across data science, artificial intelligence / machine learning, and data management.
  • Take full advantage of commercially available technologies to promote a buy vs build data science function.
  • Partner with business development leaders to understand their data and analytics needs and select and achieve initiatives.
  • Act as the “front door” to the organization regarding data management requests from customers, partners, and stakeholders.  Develop a program that allows the data science function to filter out requests that can be fulfilled by data science rather than through custom software development.
  • Set the direction and development of CAQH’s data science and machine learning algorithms, structure, tools, and processes to obtain significant improvements in data accuracy levels based on the goals of the executive management team and CAQH Board of Directors.
  •  Direct a Data Science team to support the breadth of CAQH data needs. Work within the team and across our products on the science, design, execution, and reporting of projects associated with data and data science. Engage the data team to enhance their intellectual curiosity and technical skills.
  • Serve as a member of the CAQH Leadership Council providing thought leadership and direction towards CAQH’s mission, strategy, objectives, and tactical projects.
  • Study our data from multiple angles, determine what the data means and recommend the best possible way to analyze it. Identify trends and patterns determining what is noise and what is good data and convey that understanding to others.
  • Develop plans for research and analytics including algorithm selection (data mining, machine learning etc.), advanced probability & statistics, predictive modeling, machine learning, relational database design, program design, selection of statistical methods and development of formats.
  • Participate in quality assurance processes.
  • Lead technical reviews of data-related proposals and deliverables
Knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Business knowledge, leadership and influence, communication, and organization change management.
  • Excellent ability to communicate complex technical material, both orally and in writing with the ability to explain complex models and analysis in layman terms.
  • Preferably an extensive knowledge of one or more of the following areas: Medicare, Medicaid,  provider data.
  • Deep digital, data, and analytics expertise growing a business
  • Ten or more years in a data science or data related role.
  • Ten or more years of experience analyzing large datasets.
  • Ten or more years as a senior leader with experience in building and managing a team.
  • Successful track record of building and leading a data science function from the ground up.
  • Experience with deploying commercially available data science toolsets.
  • Experience connecting large disparate data sources in a way that promotes flexibility and scalability.
  • Experience with leading data quality initiatives in a software development environment.

Master’s degree in Computer Science or a combination of education and experience which demonstrates the necessary skills and abilities.
