Chief Data Officer

Data is CAQH’s most critical asset and you will change how we understand and employ it. CAQH is seeking an action-oriented Data Scientist for our Data Science team. The Data Scientist will process, analyze, deliver results based on large health care databases – from CAQH, from member plans and from third parties. The successful candidate will have strong experience employing a variety of data mining/data analysis methods, using a variety of data tools, building and implementing models, using/creating algorithms and creating/running simulations. They must have the ability to drive business results with their data-based insights. They must be comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders and functional teams. The right candidate will have a passion for discovering solutions hidden in large data sets and working with stakeholders to improve business outcomes.

This role is full-time, exempt and reports to the Chief Data Officer. 

Specific Responsibilities
  • Work with stakeholders throughout the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging company data to drive business solutions.
  • Mine and analyze data from company databases to drive optimization and improvement of product development, marketing techniques and business strategies.
  • Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.
  • Develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets.
  • Use predictive modeling to increase and optimize customer experiences, revenue generation, ad targeting and other business outcomes.
  • Coordinate with different functional teams to implement models and monitor outcomes.
  • Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy.
  • Performs full-stack data analytics: pulling and cleaning data, analyzing it and communicating the results to key stakeholders
  • Makes sense of complex business processes and develops experiments and models to test hypotheses
  • Integrates disparate data sources for advanced ad hoc analyses and collaborates with IS to implement production-grade solutions for successful projects
  • Works with IS and Data Engineers to design technical solutions that enable flexible data science research and development
  • Adheres to departmental best practices for reproducible research
  • Provides analytical mentorship and technical expertise to Data Science Analysts and Associates
  • Creates training materials and conducts training classes to help develop data science competence across the organization
  • Leverages expertise in storytelling and data visualization to lead key stakeholders through complex analyses and help them arrive at appropriate conclusions
Knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on product development.
  • Experience using statistical computer languages (R, Python, SLQ, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.
  • Strong data visualization experience in common business intelligence tools (PowerBI, Tableau, R/Shiny)
  • Experience working with and creating data architectures.
  • Knowledge and experience in statistical and data mining techniques: GLM/Regression, Random Forest, Boosting, Trees, text mining, social network analysis, etc.
  • Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks.
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests and proper usage, etc.) and experience with applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams.
  • Coding knowledge and experience with several languages: C++, Java, JavaScript, etc.
  • A drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques.

A track record of publications is a plus.


5 or more years of experience manipulating data sets and building statistical models


Msc/MA in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field; PhD in Data Science or another quantitative field is preferred.
