Sr. Director, Data and Analytics
Position Description
The Sr. Director, Data and Analytics is responsible for providing direction, leadership, and oversight to the organization’s data and analytics initiatives. This role involves driving the development, implementation, and optimization of data platforms, analytics strategies, and data governance practices to align with the company's business objectives and enable data-driven decision-making.
This is a full-time, exempt, remote position reporting to the Vice President, Data and Analytics.
Base Salary Range: $225,000 to $250,000 annually.
Specific Responsibilities:
Strategic Data Management:
- Implement the strategic vision for data and analytics, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and business strategy.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to prioritize data initiatives and integrate analytics solutions into business processes.
Data Platform Development & Architecture:
- Oversee the design and management of scalable, secure data platforms, including SQL databases, Snowflake, dbt, Microsoft Azure, and other cloud-based solutions.
- Ensure seamless data integration, storage, and retrieval across diverse systems, enabling self-service data analytics for the organization.
Analytics Leadership:
- Drive the development of advanced analytics capabilities, including predictive modeling, machine learning, and business intelligence solutions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into actionable data insights, delivering reports and dashboards using tools like Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Build and lead a high-performing data and analytics team. Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development to staff, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Ensure the team has the necessary skills and resources to deliver high-quality analytics solutions, fostering a continuous learning environment around evolving data technologies.
Data Governance & Compliance:
- Partner with the Sr. Manager of Data Governance to develop and enforce data governance frameworks, policies, and standards to ensure data accuracy, security, and compliance with industry regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
- Lead initiatives to improve data quality, establish data stewardship roles, and manage master data management (MDM) practices.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Work closely with business units and senior leaders to understand data requirements and provide timely, data-driven insights that align with strategic goals.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders on data initiatives and analytics capabilities.
Technology & Tools Optimization:
- Continuously evaluate and adopt emerging technologies and methodologies, such as AI, machine learning, and cloud computing, to advance data and analytics capabilities.
- Drive the adoption of best practices in data engineering, including the use of SQL, Snowflake, dbt, Python, and cloud platforms like Microsoft Azure.
Data-Driven Decision Making:
- Provide regular data insights and analytics reports to support strategic decision-making across the organization.
- Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of data initiatives and ensure the organization’s data maturity is advancing.
Continuous Improvement:
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying areas for process enhancement and driving innovation in data and analytics solutions.
- Leverage automation, advanced analytics, and other technologies to improve operational efficiency and data quality.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- The Sr. Director, Data and Analytics will supervise a team of 5-7 employees, including data engineers and data scientists.
Skills:
- Strong strategic thinking, with a proven ability to lead the development and execution of data strategies that drive business outcomes.
- Expertise in data architecture, cloud platforms (e.g., Microsoft Azure Data Factory), data pipeline orchestration, and tools like dbt.
- Hands-on experience with SQL, Snowflake, and other modern data warehouses.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence and work across departments to align data goals with business strategy.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, particularly in addressing complex technical challenges in data integration and analytics.
Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in data management, analytics, or related fields.
- At least 5 years of experience in a leadership role, managing teams focused on data engineering, analytics, and business intelligence.
- Experience working with cloud platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure or other cloud environments.
- Proven track record of implementing data platforms, leading data governance efforts, and delivering scalable data solutions.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, or a related field required.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Certifications in data architecture, cloud platforms (Azure), Snowflake, or advanced analytics tools are a plus.
