Vice President, Software Engineering & AI
Position Description
The Vice President, Software Engineering & AI at CAQH is responsible for leading the design, development, and delivery of cutting-edge software products and digital platforms. This role drives innovation through modern software engineering practices, AI-accelerated development to increase delivery speed and quality, and AI-led product capabilities. The VP will also oversee the development of secure, scalable web and mobile applications that support the needs of national providers as well as our customer and client base.
The VP leads a globally distributed engineering organization, including full-time and contractor teams, and partners closely with the Executive Leadership Team to ensure that technology investments translate into measurable client and business value.
The Vice President of Software Engineering & AI is a full-time, remote, exempt position reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, with occasional travel to CAQH headquarters in Washington, DC, or other locations in support of enterprise initiatives.
Base Salary Range: $225,000 - $260,000 annually.
Specific Responsibilities:
Engineering Strategy and Leadership
- Define and execute CAQH’s software engineering strategy across web, mobile, and API platforms, ensuring scalability, reliability, and compliance with healthcare data standards.
- Lead a global organization of engineers, managers and directors to deliver intelligent, high-impact products with an eye on the continuous improvement of data accuracy across our product ecosystem.
- Partner closely with the CTO, Product, and Data leaders to align technical execution with strategic business outcomes.
- Serve as a trusted technology executive to customers, partners, and the ELT — clearly articulate how software initiatives deliver measurable business value and industry impact.
Modern Development Practices
- Lead adoption of modern application development practices — trunk-based development, CI/CD, progressive delivery, and feature flagging — to enable rapid and reliable releases for web and mobile applications.
- Embed automated development driven testing and quality validation throughout the delivery lifecycle to improve reliability and shorten release cycles.
- Partner with Security and Infrastructure teams to ensure application delivery aligns with HIPAA, SOC 2, and HITECH requirements, including secure coding and proper data handling.
AI Driven Development
- Partner with Data Science and Product teams to design and deliver AI-powered product capabilities, including predictive analytics, automated decision support, and intelligent data validation within CAQH platforms.
- Integrate AI intelligent code generation, and AI-driven development testing to increase development velocity and software quality.
- Use AI for sprint forecasting, defect prediction and engineering analytics to improve delivery flow.
- Deploy agentic AI systems to automate recurring engineering work.
Mobile Application Development
- Lead full-cycle development of native and cross-platform mobile applications.
- Drive innovation in AI-enhanced mobile features such as predictive search, voice input, and real-time data validation.
- Partner with UX and Product teams to ensure seamless, accessible experiences across mobile and web interfaces.
- Oversee mobile CI/CD pipelines and ensure compliance with healthcare privacy and data encryption standards.
Customer and Executive Engagement
- Represent software engineering on the Executive Leadership Team, communicating progress, outcomes, and innovation roadmaps with clarity and business context.
- Present to customers and partners, translating technical advancements into tangible improvements in data accuracy, administrative efficiency, and cost reduction.
- Collaborate with client-facing teams to understand healthcare organization needs and incorporate feedback into the engineering roadmap.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- The Vice President manages a team of 2–4 direct reports and external consultants spanning government relations, policy, and accreditation functions.
- The Vice President is expected to mentor staff, develop talent, and contribute to a collaborative and high-performing culture.

Experience:
- A minimum of 15 years managing technology operations and customer-facing support.
- A minimum of 15 years supervising technology management, staff and vendors.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a healthcare setting, with emphasis on efficiency, implementation of new capabilities and overall customer satisfaction.
- Experience with designing, implementing, and managing in-house and outsourced solutions with multiple support models and international locations is required.
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree required (Computer Science, Business, or technology preferred).
- Master's Degree is highly desirable.
