The Director, Portfolio and Program Management is responsible for the successful execution of complex technical initiatives for a growing portfolio of nationwide industry utilities aimed at streamlining business processes across the entire healthcare system.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive portfolio management strategy, multi-year plans and program roadmaps that align initiatives with 3-year organizational goals and objectives.
  • Oversee the initiation, planning, monitoring and execution of multiple, concurrent software development and IT projects and programs to success.
  • Champion SAFe agile principles and values, and promote a culture of collaboration, transparency, self-organization, innovation, servant leader, and continuous improvements.
  • Attract, recruit, lead, grow, and mentor a team of high-performing program and project managers to ensure projects are well-coordinated, milestones are achieved, and outcomes routinely meet or exceed expectations.
  • Engage and build strong relationships with internal stakeholders from various departments and external partners, including executives, department heads, and project sponsors.
  • Establish and maintain a robust framework for managing changes. 
  • Work with resource managers and project sponsors to allocate resources appropriately across programs and projects, and to ensure optimized resource utilization.
  • Monitor and manage risks, issues, and dependencies, implementing appropriate mitigation strategies throughout program increments and project lifecycles.
  • Provide regular reports and updates to senior management and stakeholders on portfolio, program and project status, key performance indicators, resource utilization, and budgets.
  • Work closely with the finance team to set, monitor and manage annual and project budgets, track expenses, and report on financial performance with variance justifications.
  • Support Product Management in delivering capabilities that enhance the value proposition of products in our portfolio in alignment with the product strategies and CAQH’s strategy.
  • Communicate efficiently and effectively ideas and decisions across levels of management.
  • Lead the development and implementation of operational models, policies, and procedures.
  • Serve as an escalation point for issues, resolves conflicts, manage escalated problem resolutions, and quarterback subsequent root cause analysis and resolution.

The Director, Portfolio and Program Management is responsible for the successful execution of complex technical initiatives for a growing portfolio of nationwide industry utilities aimed at streamlining business processes across the entire healthcare system.  This role requires a strong combination of leadership, project management expertise, technical savviness, and the ability to drive collaboration and communication across departments with an agile mindset. This role is accountable for an established team of program and project managers.  These responsibilities support all functions in the organization as well as partners in multiple countries.  The Director, Portfolio and Program Management is a full-time, remote, exempt position and reports to the Vice President, Technology. 

Knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Demonstrated experience managing a project management organization or PMO.
  • Highly organized, self-driven, hands-on, and collaborative team player that takes initiative and can influence outcomes autonomously in a matrix organization with a significant supplier ecosystem and under pressure.
  • Extensive experience in lean portfolio and program management, with a track record of leading and successfully delivering complex technical initiatives in the healthcare industry.
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, financial and investment management, and problem-solving skills with a focus on driving results and achieving organizational objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage technical projects simultaneously and willingness to lead by example and with empathy by taking on management of projects and programs.
  • Excellent leadership, team management, mentoring and financial skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse team of professionals as a servant leader.
  • Strong background, mentoring and training ability in agile methodologies, with demonstrated mastery of SAFe, Scrum, Jira, and Confluence.
  • Ability to acquire and retain organizational, domain, technical and product knowledge rapidly.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal abilities, capable of effectively engaging with stakeholders at all levels and forging strong cross-functional partnerships and long-term relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience managing resources and projects across multiple countries.
  • SAFe and PMP certifications required.  ITIL, Prosci, or equivalent certifications preferred.
Experience
  • 15+ years of professional experience in an IT or product development organization.
  • 7+ years directing a program/project management department or a PMO in a technology organization, preferably in the healthcare industry.
  • 5+ years in a supervisory role managing multi-million-dollar project portfolios and budgets.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.

The Director of Product Portfolio Strategy manages the roadmap development process and provides training and documentation support for product leaders to publish long term plans aligned to the organization’s strategy and goals.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Leads and manages the product roadmap development process to develop long term plans that align with CAQH strategy and goals.
  • Coalesces with internal and external stakeholders for market research and product intelligence.
  • Ensure product strategy best practices are maintained in forming an 18-month Roadmap and 3-Year Plan associated to each portfolio.
  • Ensure market research, voice of customer, and internal stakeholders needs are represented in the portfolio’s roadmap and strategy. 
  • Create repeatable and reliable matrixed processes.
  • Ensure Radical Listening & Design-Thinking best practices are used to form a shared Point of View for the product’s vision.

The Director of Product Portfolio Strategy manages the roadmap development process and provides training and documentation support for product leaders to publish long term plans aligned to the organization’s strategy and goals. Establishes and maintains streams of market research, product intelligence appropriate for portfolios and coordinates inputs from internal and external stakeholders to form roadmaps, business cases, and a 3-year portfolio plan. This position coaches and ensures product strategy best practices, based on Pragmatic Marketing principles, are incorporated into Product Portfolio investment requests, forecasting, and execution. Supports talent development of the product organization by providing coaching, operating models, and content for training for townhall forums.  

The Director of Product Portfolio Strategy reports to the Senior Vice President, Product Strategy in the CAQH Solutions organization. This is a full-time, exempt, remote position.

Knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Demonstrates strong knowledge of product management discipline, executive-level documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to synthesize market and customer needs and illustrate a vision through buyer personas, journey maps, and workflows.
  • Ability to position products based on buyer personas, market opportunities and segmentation.
  • Have firm grounding in healthcare industry trends including provider workflow integration, member engagement, digital strategies, and AI/data science.
  • Experience creating Payer and Provider-facing reporting and analytic solutions.
  • Demonstrates strong technical and business acumen.
  • Knowledge of market priorities for payer and providers 
Experience
  • Previous experience managing multiple products or a product line.
  • Experience as Product Owner in Agile/Scrum Framework.
  • Experience as Product Manager following Pragmatic Marketing discipline to develop Persona, workflows, and Roadmap.
  • 10+ years of health care or IT business experience or related background with proven track record in product/program management.
  • Proven consultation, business analysis, product manager, and client/relationship management skills at the technical and business leadership level.
  • Experience managing and coaching resources towards performance goals.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, negotiation and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to set strategic direction as well as develop tactical plans.
  • Solid knowledge of the healthcare industry, products and services.
  • Demonstrated process improvement/change management skills.
  • Strong financial analysis skills.
  • Able to travel up to 25.
  • Knowledge of various compliance standards within the Healthcare industry.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of constituencies and diverse groups of people.
  • Ability to operate in a fast pace and changing environment remaining focused on results and goals.
  • Display consistent professionalism and good judgment during conflict and resolves differences constructively.
