The Director, Portfolio and Program Management is responsible for the successful execution of complex technical initiatives for a growing portfolio of nationwide industry utilities aimed at streamlining business processes across the entire healthcare system.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive portfolio management strategy, multi-year plans and program roadmaps that align initiatives with 3-year organizational goals and objectives.
- Oversee the initiation, planning, monitoring and execution of multiple, concurrent software development and IT projects and programs to success.
- Champion SAFe agile principles and values, and promote a culture of collaboration, transparency, self-organization, innovation, servant leader, and continuous improvements.
- Attract, recruit, lead, grow, and mentor a team of high-performing program and project managers to ensure projects are well-coordinated, milestones are achieved, and outcomes routinely meet or exceed expectations.
- Engage and build strong relationships with internal stakeholders from various departments and external partners, including executives, department heads, and project sponsors.
- Establish and maintain a robust framework for managing changes.
- Work with resource managers and project sponsors to allocate resources appropriately across programs and projects, and to ensure optimized resource utilization.
- Monitor and manage risks, issues, and dependencies, implementing appropriate mitigation strategies throughout program increments and project lifecycles.
- Provide regular reports and updates to senior management and stakeholders on portfolio, program and project status, key performance indicators, resource utilization, and budgets.
- Work closely with the finance team to set, monitor and manage annual and project budgets, track expenses, and report on financial performance with variance justifications.
- Support Product Management in delivering capabilities that enhance the value proposition of products in our portfolio in alignment with the product strategies and CAQH’s strategy.
- Communicate efficiently and effectively ideas and decisions across levels of management.
- Lead the development and implementation of operational models, policies, and procedures.
- Serve as an escalation point for issues, resolves conflicts, manage escalated problem resolutions, and quarterback subsequent root cause analysis and resolution.

The Director, Portfolio and Program Management is responsible for the successful execution of complex technical initiatives for a growing portfolio of nationwide industry utilities aimed at streamlining business processes across the entire healthcare system. This role requires a strong combination of leadership, project management expertise, technical savviness, and the ability to drive collaboration and communication across departments with an agile mindset. This role is accountable for an established team of program and project managers. These responsibilities support all functions in the organization as well as partners in multiple countries. The Director, Portfolio and Program Management is a full-time, remote, exempt position and reports to the Vice President, Technology.
- Demonstrated experience managing a project management organization or PMO.
- Highly organized, self-driven, hands-on, and collaborative team player that takes initiative and can influence outcomes autonomously in a matrix organization with a significant supplier ecosystem and under pressure.
- Extensive experience in lean portfolio and program management, with a track record of leading and successfully delivering complex technical initiatives in the healthcare industry.
- Excellent analytical, decision-making, financial and investment management, and problem-solving skills with a focus on driving results and achieving organizational objectives.
- Demonstrated ability to manage technical projects simultaneously and willingness to lead by example and with empathy by taking on management of projects and programs.
- Excellent leadership, team management, mentoring and financial skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse team of professionals as a servant leader.
- Strong background, mentoring and training ability in agile methodologies, with demonstrated mastery of SAFe, Scrum, Jira, and Confluence.
- Ability to acquire and retain organizational, domain, technical and product knowledge rapidly.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal abilities, capable of effectively engaging with stakeholders at all levels and forging strong cross-functional partnerships and long-term relationships.
- Demonstrated experience managing resources and projects across multiple countries.
- SAFe and PMP certifications required. ITIL, Prosci, or equivalent certifications preferred.
- 15+ years of professional experience in an IT or product development organization.
- 7+ years directing a program/project management department or a PMO in a technology organization, preferably in the healthcare industry.
- 5+ years in a supervisory role managing multi-million-dollar project portfolios and budgets.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent required.
- Master’s degree preferred.
